arfulogoPakistan on Saturday night defeated India in the final of the Under-19 Asian Rugby Championship 2013 in Pakistan’s eastern city of Lahore, officials said.

A big number of rugby lovers witnessed a tough competition between two arch-rival neighbors at the Punjab Stadium of Lahore.

Pakistan’s aggressive young players won the final match with the margin of 13-11 points.

At the end of the first half, both teams’ scores were leveled 8- 8, but in the second half, Pakistani team looked more confident and attacking, which won five more points for them while Indians could get only three more points.

Earlier on Wednesday, Pakistan was qualified for the championship final after beating Afghanistan by 44-6 while Indian team got “by” to qualify for the final after Uzbekistan couldn’t participate in the tournament due to some technical reasons.

Indian team captain Suraj Veer Sharma said, “Pakistan’s forward line was excellent with impressive attacks, we had to work hard to counter their attacks. We tried our best to win the title but at the end one team is to lose.”

Pakistan rugby team captain Daud Gull was very satisfied with his side’s performance.

“It was very tough contest, we had home crowed support at our back but even then we faced a tough time from the visitors. The match was very interesting and memorable,” said Gull.

The competition was one of the rare sport events that were held between both arch-rival neighbors since 2008 Mumbai attacks, which India blamed on militants based in Pakistan.

A Pakistan rugby team will also tour India next week to feature in the Asian Sevens in which teams from 16 countries would compete.
